The Open University of Tanzania (OUT), through its UNESCO Chair on Teacher Education and Curriculum, has completed a dissemination and certificate award workshop for 24 STEM teachers from Iringa District Council who were trained under the CL4STEM digital skills programme.
Opening the event, Prof. Kapaya Saganga, OUT’s Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic, Research and Consultancy, applauded the teachers’ progress in mastering digital tools, open educational resources, online teaching platforms, and responsible use of AI in STEM classrooms. He noted that the programme also equipped teachers with training-of-trainers (ToT) skills to support scaling across schools in the district.
CL4STEM Project Lead Dr. Edephonce Nfuka highlighted that the teachers recorded a 20 percent improvement in digital competencies and confirmed that over 90 percent are ready to train peers using tools such as GeoGebra, PhET simulations, Moodle, and AI platforms. He emphasized that the programme strengthens digital readiness and supports the competency-based curriculum.
Representing the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), Mr. MussaMnyeti commended OUT and Iringa District Council for supporting teachers to adopt digital and AI tools responsibly in line with national education priorities. He affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to expanding digital learning innovations in schools.
Certificates were issued both physically and digitally through the Moodle platform.
The training marks a key step toward strengthening digitally empowered STEM teaching across Iringa District Council.
