TANZANIA DELEGATION HIGHLIGHTS THE OBSERVANCE OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AHEAD OF TANZANIA'S FOURTH UPR REVIEW

Geneva, Switzerland | 3 November 2026

The Delegation of the United Republic of Tanzania to the UPR 53 has reaffirmed the relevance of Tanzania's legal framework in promoting human rights, inclusive development and international cooperation as Tanzania prepares for its Fourth Cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) under the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The Delegation is making the preparation under the leadership of H.E. Ambassador Dr. Abdallah Possi at the Permanent Mission of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

The engagement is part of Tanzania's preparations for the 53rd Session of the UPR Working Group, scheduled to take place from 2 to 13 November 2026 at the United Nations Office in Geneva.

Tanzania's participation highlights the importance it accords to human rights and its contribution to national and international efforts to promote human dignity, equal opportunities, access to knowledge and inclusive societies. Through its areas of competence in Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Culture, and Communication and Information, UNESCO supports initiatives that contribute to the advancement of human rights and sustainable development.

The preparatory engagement provided an opportunity for members of the Tanzanian delegation to coordinate their preparations ahead of the national review. Tanzania's Fourth UPR Cycle offers an important platform to present progress made in fulfilling its human rights commitments, share national experiences and engage constructively with other Member States on recommendations arising from previous review cycles.
